Using homemade room sprays is a versatile way to infuse your space with a quick burst of your favorite aroma and get the therapeutic benefits of the essential oils used.
When you make your own room sprays, you can experiment with various essential oil combinations and create your own customized scents. While you can use any scent at any time of the year, there are a few that are more suitable for certain seasons.
The hot sunny days of summer called for light, cool, citrusy, and floral scents. These give way to warmer, spicier aromas as summer turns to fall and the days get darker and cooler. Think nutmeg, clove, eucalyptus, and cinnamon. These are some of the best essential oils to use during the fall.
You can create a variety of fall-scented blends by mixing these four essential oils in various combinations along with a drop or two of floral or citrusy aromas to lend a touch of freshness to the blend. Some emit the aromas of fresh fallen leaves, while others may smell of the woods, fall air, or pumpkin spice.
The basic room spray recipe remains the same. The only difference is in the essential oils that you use to create different scents.
Basic Room Spray Instructions
Ingredients
8-ounce dark-colored, glass spray bottle
3 tablespoons witch hazel or 2 tablespoons vodka
6 tablespoons filtered water
25-30 drops of Essential oils of your choice (Scroll below for options)
Each of the ingredients mentioned above plays an important role in the ultimate result. This article on DIY Room Sprays with Essential Oils goes into detail about each ingredient.
Instructions
- Put the water and witch hazel (or vodka) into the spray bottle.
- Add 15 to 25 drops of your favorite fall essential oil blends from the recipes below. I suggest starting with 15 drops and then adding more if you want a stronger scent.
- Shake gently to allow all the liquids to mix well and let it sit for a while.
- Spray a short burst into the air. If you find the scent too mild, add a few more drops of the blend into the mix.
- Always shake the bottle gently before using the spray. This will ensure that the essential oil is evenly distributed in the liquid.
This recipe is sufficient for one bottle of room freshener spray. Double or triple the recipe if you are making several fall room sprays to give away as gifts.
