The delicious aroma of Christmas cookies… heady scent of peppermint candy cane… uplifting aroma of a freshly cut Christmas tree… fresh-out-of-the-oven gingerbread cookies…warm mulled wine… the sweet n’ spicy scent of orange pomanders… are just a few of my favorite scents of the season.
One way to infuse your home with these traditional seasonal scents is by adding Christmas essential oil blends to your diffuser during the Holidays.
You will find lots of wonderful Christmas essential oil blend recipes on my site but this compilation is a little different. Here you’ll find recipes to recreate some of the more ‘traditional’ Christmas scents using blends of various essential oils.
This collection is inspired by Christmas traditions old and new, some of which have been long forgotten. Remember Wassailing, an ancient Anglo-Saxon tradition? We may not want to go Wassailing anymore but it may be worth trying out the drink associated with it.
Adding a few drops of these traditional Christmas essential oil blends in your diffuser is sure to keep that festive mood going through the Holiday season.
Traditional Wassail Holiday Diffuser Blend
3 drops Blood Orange
3 drops Juniper Berry
2 drops Nutmeg
2 drops Ginger
2 drops Clove
Let’s dive into this list of traditional Christmas essential oil blends with the most traditional of them all – the Wassail Blend.
Wassail is an ancient traditional drink made with roasted apples, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, sugar, and eggs, topped with whipped cream. As you can imagine, it had a heady aroma. The combination of essential oils used in the Wassail Blend recreates that heady aroma, distinctive of this traditional drink.
I haven’t tried the drink but I’ve tried creating this blend. It is sweet, spicy, and fruity all at once – out of this world!
I wouldn’t substitute any of the oils or change their proportions. I love it just the way it is!

Gifts of the Magi Diffuser Blend
3 drops Frankincense
3 drops Myrrh
2 drops Wild Orange
1 drop Douglas Fir (optional)
Diffusing the Gifts Of The Magi Blend in your diffuser will remind you of the original story of the 3 wise men and their gifts of frankincense, myrrh, and gold.
The wild orange in the recipe represents the gold given to baby Jesus.
If you find the aroma a little too strong for you, you may want to add that drop of fir needle oil. The fir needle scent adds a hint of freshness to the blend.
If you are planning on making the Gifts of the Magi blend, you can save by picking up this combo pack of frankincense and myrrh instead of buying each bottle separately.
Egg Nog Diffuser Blend
3 drops Vanilla
2 drops Nutmeg
The Eggnog Blend contains just two oils – vanilla bean and nutmeg. One is decadent and sweet, the other has a distinctive aroma that is part sweet, part spicy.
The combination of these two strong scents creates a very distinctive aroma that is almost similar to eggnog.
