What Is the Hamama Microgreens Kit?
The Hamama Microgreens kit is a complete grow kit. It includes everything you need to grow microgreens at home without soil.
The kit is designed by two MIT graduates who decided to use their knowledge and skills to develop an easy system that anyone could use to grow microgreens at home. And so the Hamama Easy Microgreens Kit was born.
This indoor microgreen grow kit makes it easy to grow healthy, delicious microgreens indoors all year round regardless of space and time limitations.
When you order a Hamama Microgreens Kit you get a pre-packaged, fully contained system for growing microgreens. The only thing you need to add is water – nothing else.
A monthly subscription makes it possible to grow a variety of microgreens all year round without any hassles.
What is Included in the Hamama Microgreens Kit?
All kits include four basic components.
- A reusable microgreens grow tray. The tray measures 12.5″ x 6.5″ x 2″ and has a built-in riser that keeps the seed quilt above the waterline
- Three seed quilts of your choice
- Instructions for setting up the kit and next steps
The kit is compact and takes up minimal space. You can place the microgreens kit anywhere you have a little space.
You can choose from two types of grow trays – plastic and ceramic. If you want to add an aesthetic touch to the setup, you can purchase Hamama’s Custom-Designed Bamboo Frame separately. The grow tray fits perfectly into this Bamboo Frame to create a more visually appealing space. It’s not absolutely necessary but is a nice touch if you’re placing the kit on your kitchen counter or the window sill.
What are Seed Quilts?
Developed by Hamama, the Seed Quilts are a touch of genius. These proprietary seed quilts are designed for optimum germination.
The seed quilts are made of coconut coir and hold everything you need to grow your microgreens at home, including a humidity dome. Coconut coir retains moisture very well, which makes it perfect for the purpose. It is also a renewable material, which is a huge plus.
Each seed quilt is constructed like a sandwich with two sheets one on top of the other. In between the sheets are evenly spaced pods, which are filled with the seeds and the grow medium.
The seed quilt with the grow medium is the magic feature of this microgreens kit. A lot of thought has gone into designing it so it helps promote germination while helping to retain moisture for the required number of days.

How to Use the Hamama Seed Quilts & Microgreens Grow Kit
Using the Hamama Microgreens Grow Kit and Seed Quilt is unbelievably easy and straightforward.
Just add water to the growing tray once, plant your seed quilt and you’re done. No need to water repeatedly. Neither do you need to install special lighting or a humidity done. Everything you need is included with the kit.
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
- Step 1- Fill the container with water up to the fill line – approximately 3 cups
- Step 2- Place the seed quilt inside the tray
- Step 3- Press down for 10 seconds. This allows the seed quilt to come in contact with the water and begin absorbing the water.
That’s it! Your super easy microgreen kit is set up and your seeds are primed to start germinating.
Check the grow kit in about 48 to 72 hours. You should see some signs of germination. The seed pods will have swollen a little bit and you should see little sprouts beginning to push the top layer of the quilt up. This indicates that the sprouts are eager to break through and ‘sprout their wings’. You can help them by peeling back the top layer of the seed quilt when you start to see the green leaves sprouting through the top. This will expose the growing greens.
Once you’re done peeling back the top layer of the quilt, leave your microgreens be to grow at their own pace.
Time to Harvest Your Homegrown Microgreens
Your microgreens should be ready to harvest in about a week to ten days. You can harvest your homegrown microgreens by cutting or pulling them. Both are equally easy. Which harvesting method you use depends on your personal preference.
Cutting the microgreens is easy. Use a pair of herb scissors and snip them off right at their base. A quick rinse and they are ready to be eaten.
To pull the microgreens, simply grasp the base of the stems and pull. They will come out of the holder easily.
Microgreens Seed Quilt Varieties

This is a fantastic assortment as it allows you to mix different greens for a variety of nutrients. You can order a different combination of seed quilts every time to add variety to your dishes.
