This is truly rich, creamy goodness in a jar.
I’d been wanting to learn how to make body cream with shea butter for a while but somehow did not get down to it till now.
I think one of the reasons I hesitated with learning how to make shea body butter is that most recipes I found required a boatload of ingredients. What I wanted was something simple with minimum ingredients. And of course, it had to smell good too.
This Shea Body Butter recipe with 3 ingredients ticks all the boxes.
Ingredients for Shea Body Butter
- 3 tablespoons Shea Butter
- 1/2 teaspoon Passion Flower Or Maracuja Oil
- 10 drops Vanilla Extract
To make, simply mix all ingredients and store in a glass jar with tight-fitting lid.
After a nice, relaxing bath, slather yourself in this rich, healing body butter that’s so healthy and smells like a slice of heaven.
This Shea Body Butter is absolutely wonderful for the skin. Not only are grapeseed oil and vanilla extract wonderfully healing thanks to their antioxidant properties, but they also relax the mind and soothe the spirit. This after-bath body butter is perfect for an evening wind-down before bed.
Here’s a quick look at the role each of these ingredients plays in making this Shea Body Butter so good for the skin.
Shea Butter Properties
Shea butter is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A and E, both of which are antioxidants. All of these ingredients work together to boost skin regeneration, fight free radical damage, improve the skin’s elasticity and keep wrinkles at bay.
In its unrefined form, Shea butter retains all of its natural vitamins but has a very strong smell that makes it unsuitable for skincare products on its own. Adding vanilla essential oil masks the smell so you get the goodness of Shea butter with the delicious smell of vanilla!
If you are allergic to nuts or latex replace the Shea butter with solid coconut oil.
Passionflower or Maracuja Oil
Passionflower oil is obtained from the Amazon, where it is known as Maracuja oil. Maracuja oil is an outstanding emollient – it’s light enough to penetrate the skin and moisturizes from within.
The Maracuja oil complements the properties of the Shea Butter in this recipe, resulting in a body lotion that is great for dry skin. It is particularly useful if your skin tends to get too dry and itchy in the winter.
Vanilla Botanical Extract
Vanilla extract has a wonderfully uplifting smell that is synonymous with luxury and decadence. The addition of vanilla essential oil makes this nourishing body butter even more luxurious.
Vivaplex Amber Round Glass Jars
This Shea Body Butter is best stored in amber glass jars because of the addition of vanilla essential oil.
Never store in plastic jars or in light-colored glass jars. Plastic could react with the essential oil, compromising the integrity of the oil.
Exposure to light could also damage the quality of the oil, which is why essential oils and their related products are always stored in dark-colored amber or blue glass jars.
Alright, so now you’ve seen how to make Shea Body Butter the quick and easy way. Your turn to try it. While you are at it, you may want to make a larger batch and give some away as gifts too.
