Is it really worth taking the time and trouble to make your own body wash with natural ingredients?
What are the benefits of doing this?
The answer to the first question is that making your own body wash with all natural ingredients is really easy and not as time-consuming as you would think.
As for why it is worth it, the answer to that is simple. Commercially manufactured body wash often contains ingredients and toxins that can irritate skin. If you’ve looked around for body wash that contains only natural ingredients, you know how difficult and expensive that can be. Sometimes it feels like most brands add a few extra dollars to their products every time they use the words ‘all-natural’ on the label.
My solution is to make my own body wash with all natural ingredients along with my favorite essential oils.
The base ingredient in many DIY body wash recipes calls for liquid castile soap. This is an olive-oil-based hard soap made in a style similar to that originating in the Castile region of Spain. Hence the name.
The moisturizing agent in the body wash is a carrier oil. Coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, or grapeseed oil are all good choices for this homemade body wash with all natural ingredients.
Another ingredient that benefits your skin is honey. Honey helps keep your skin from drying out, making it perfect for dry, itchy and damaged skin. The honey makes the body wash smooth. It’s best to use raw, unfiltered honey.
Essential oils add both a pleasant fragrance and healing properties. Choose a combination that appeals to your senses and your skin type. Best essential oils to choose from for your homemade body wash are orange, lavender, eucalyptus, geranium, chamomile, palmarosa, peppermint, rosemary, sandalwood, tea tree, or ylang ylang.
Basic DIY Body Wash With Natural Ingredients: Recipe
- 2 /3 cup Liquid Castile Soap
- 1 /4 cup Raw, Unfiltered Honey
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
- 1 /4 cup of coconut oil or carrier oil of your choice (if using solid coconut oil, it will need to be melted in a small bowl in the microwave.)
- 40 to 50 drops essential oil of your choice
Combine the honey, essential oils, vitamin E and coconut oil in a glass bowl.
Mix together with a whisk.
Slowly add the liquid castile soap, while stirring gently all the time. This prevents suds from being created.
Transfer the mixture to a pretty glass bottle with a pump.
Shake well before using.
Creating your own DIY all natural body wash with essential oils is quick and easy and the benefits are great for your skin.
