Surprise family and friends this Christmas with customized aromatherapy gift baskets!
As the holiday season approaches, it’s time to start thinking about gifts for your friends and loved ones. And of course, there’s that age-old dilemma – should you buy gifts this year or should you make your own Christmas gifts?
There is no right answer for everyone. You may cherish the idea of making your own gifts, while somebody else may prefer to spend time Christmas shopping.
Then, there are the recipients of the gifts. Some people love to receive personalized homemade Christmas gifts, while others may have something more specific in mind that is not DIY.
An aromatherapy gift basket is one of those brilliant gift ideas that straddle both choices. It’s part DIY and part store-bought, and that’s just one of the many reasons why these make perfect gifts.
Besides being a money-saving gift idea, everybody loves getting baskets filled with interesting goodies that have been personalized just for them!
If you are new to aromatherapy and are not sure what it is or what it does, aromatherapy is the practice of inhaling aromas from pure essential oils. These essential oils provide a wide range of amazing physical and emotional benefits, from soothing anxiety and easing fatigue to calming chronic pain and promoting relaxation.
Putting together a gift basket that contains assorted aromatherapy items and essential oils is a great way to give a loved one the gift of natural health.
But first… a look at why you should consider a gift basket.
Why a Gift Basket of Any Type is a Brilliant Gift Idea
Before looking into how to put together your aromatherapy gift basket, it helps to know why this is such a great gift in the first place.
You Can Customize the Basket
This tops the long list of reasons why you should consider giving a gift basket. You can customize a gift basket from A to Z, from the type of container that will act as the ‘basket’, to the number of items you want to include in the basket and the total cost of the gift.
This makes it easy to personalize it for the theme, purpose, and the person receiving it. If you know that the recipient has specific preferences or certain allergies, you can customize your gift basket specifically for them.
It is Easy to Choose a Theme
When you are choosing items for the gift basket, you can go all out by staying close to the chosen theme or you can mix and match themes to create mini surprises in the basket.
An aromatherapy gift basket by itself is a great idea as there are plenty of items you can choose to fill in the basket.
For the holiday season, you can take the theme one step further and create an aromatherapy gift basket for Christmas as your theme. This means including relaxing and pampering aromatherapy items that really cater to the holiday theme.

Putting Together a Gift Basket is Loads of Fun
There’s no denying the fun factor that’s associated with putting together a gift basket. This is poles apart from scrolling through a catalog and picking up gifts for all the people on your list.
When creating a gift basket, the excitement levels will keep on rising as you go through the various steps of making a list of what the various items to include, the type of container to use and then putting it all together and wrapping it up.
You can even get the kids involved in making the gift basket.
What I love most about creating gift baskets is looking for small filler items to put in the basket. These don’t have to be expensive but they add a super fun element to the gift. You know your recipients will be in for an exciting time as they go through all of these individual items you’ve carefully chosen.
It is Budget-Friendly
Another great advantage of gift baskets is that it is really easy to stick to a budget without anyone realizing it. The thought that you’ve gone through all of the trouble to create a personalized gift will be foremost on your recipients’ minds.
You can choose a basket and the items according to your gifting budget and how much you want to spend on each one. With the vast array of choices available, this won’t be difficult at all.

You Know Your Recipient Will Love It
Think about it – what would you prefer, one gift or many?
You’ve got to admit, opening several gifts is so much more exciting and even better, when these gifts are an assortment of goodies that are thoughtfully selected with them in mind.
An Aromatherapy Gift Basket Takes it One Step Further
Where an aromatherapy gift basket scores over other types of gift baskets is that it is filled with items that boost health and well-being. Surely nothing can top that.
When you give someone an aromatherapy gift basket, you know they are going to love opening all those unique little surprises packed inside the container, whether they are homemade or store-bought.
Best of all… even if you decide to fill your aromatherapy gift basket with store-bought items, the fact that you chose each individual item and put it together, still makes the gift homemade.
Anyone who receives this gift from you is sure to recognize the time and effort that went into choosing their gift. You just can’t go wrong.
Now that you can see why aromatherapy gift baskets are a brilliant gift idea, it’s time to start creating your own.
The first thing you must do before you start creating your customized aromatherapy gift basket is to gather your thoughts.
If you start shopping willy-nilly without a proper plan you are going to get overwhelmed and what started out as a fun project will soon turn into a tedious chore. Don’t let that happen!
When you organize your thoughts and make a plan, you will find that creating an aromatherapy gift basket can be super-easy and loads of fun.
So here’s how you go about creating a fantastic aromatherapy gift basket for all loved ones on your list.
Step 1 – Choose a Theme
Step 2 – Decide on your budget
Step 3 – Select the items for your basket & decide which of these will be DIY
Step 4 – Choose your Basket or Container
Step 5 – Look for gifty-gaps or filler items
Step 6 – Assemble your Aromatherapy Gift Basket
Step 7 – Gift wrap your Basket
Step 1 – Choose a Theme
The theme of your aromatherapy gift basket will depend on your recipient and their needs or passions. Choosing a theme tailored to the recipient makes it so much more special.
An essential oil basket that you gift to a new mommy will be different from one you create for a sportsperson or for the man in your life.
Remember with aromatherapy, different scents are used for different purposes. Keep this in mind when choosing which essential oils and other aromatherapy-related items to include in your gift basket.
While choosing a theme or selecting items for your basket, it helps to keep this in mind – any gift basket is fun to open so don’t stress too much about each and every item. As long as you don’t stray too far from the general them, you’re good to go.

Step 2 – Decide on Your Budget
Now don’t go crazy when creating your aromatherapy gift baskets. It’s only natural to want to buy the best for your loved ones but trust me, they would not be happy knowing that you are in debt because you blew your savings on gifts.
The great thing about creating an aromatherapy gift basket is that you can spend as much or as little as you want. Two carefully chosen items in a beautiful container can bring as much joy to the recipient as a basket overflowing with goodies.
Step 3 – Select the Items for Your Basket & Decide Which of These Will Be DIY
Naturally, a big part of the basket is going to be items directly related to aromatherapy and essential oils with a few related items.
Essential oils or holiday-themed essential oil blends, scented candles, bath items, drawer sachets and aromatherapy jewelry are a few of the more basic aromatherapy items. The good news is they are quite reasonably priced too.
If you have the budget for it, include an aromatherapy diffuser.
There are two ways you can proceed with creating your own Aromatherapy Gift Basket:
#1 – Buy aromatherapy items and accessories to put into your basket
#2 – Make all aromatherapy consumables yourself and buy a few essential accessories to enhance the experience. Remember, homemade gifts are a labor of love. It’s something you should consider only if you love spending time creating things and if you have the time to spare.
Here you will find plenty of aromatherapy gift ideas for different themes.
If you like the thought of DIY, check out these easy gifts and things to make with essential oils.
Whether you decide to buy, make or a little of both, you will find loads of beautiful gift items, that are both beautiful and budget-friendly.

Step 4 – Choose your Basket or Container
Now don’t get stuck with a picture of a wicker basket. While wicker baskets are fabulous, you definitely don’t have to choose a basket.
This was a traditional concept and the name has stuck, but you don’t have to be. You can use just about any type of container or holder to create your customized aromatherapy gift basket.
You’ve got the container sorted out, now it’s time to look for Aromatherapy-related items that you can put into your container.
Step 5 – Look For Gifty-Gaps or Filler Items
Finally, gift baskets often include a few extra items, whether to fill up empty space in the basket to make it look more decorative, or simply to have more items that the recipient will love as part of their gift. So, don’t be afraid to pick up a few extra things you think will go great with your basket.
Lots of ideas here for gifty gaps you can add to your aromatherapy gift basket. Link will be added as soon as I get the post up. Be sure to come back and check.
Step 6 – Assemble your Aromatherapy Gift Baskets
Once you’ve got all of the items you want to add in each basket, you’re in the home stretch. Now all you’ve got to do is assemble and then wrap up your aromatherapy basket.
While there are no rigid rules for this, these guidelines will help you create a look that’s just right.
Start by placing a layer of lightly crumpled tissue paper at the bottom of the basket/container to raise the base on which you will place your aromatherapy items.
There are two ways you can place the items in the basket:
- Place the tall items at the back and the smaller items in front. This is easy to do and creates a basket with a front and a back.
- Place the tall items in the center and the smaller items around it in such a way that it creates a balanced look from all sides. This is slightly challenging to do but looks more beautiful as it takes your creation from a basket that can be used as a centerpiece.
Use crumpled up tissue paper to fill the bare space between the items in the basket and give it a fuller look.
For best effect, choose tissue paper in the same or complementary color of your theme, or depending on the season or the occasion.
For Christmas, you could choose these in green, gold, red and white.
For Valentine’s Day, don’t stray too far from red, pink and white.
Step 7 – Gift wrap your Basket
The exact assembling, wrapping, and finishing touches will depend on the size and type of container that you use.
Think about how excited you feel when you receive a gift that is elaborately gift-wrapped so take a little extra time with this step. You can make the most amazing packaging without having to pay hundreds of dollars.
Sometimes, I am pleased with the way my gift basket looks after I have assembled the items, wrapped up the basket and added the finishing touches.
Other days, I struggle to be creative and that is obvious in the less-than-pretty-looking gift basket. On those days that I find myself struggling, I go to Amazon and to get some ideas for creative assembling and packing.
Listed below are a few items you will need for this step. Remember, your wrapping items do not have to be expensive. I’ve included links to where you can get these at the best prices.
Cellophane – You can find clear, printed, colored and festive cellophane. These are sold in rolls on Amazon. You can buy several rolls in different colors depending on the occasion or if you want to save even more, buy rolls of just one color. The clear cellophane with small gold patterns is versatile and can be used for any occasion.
Ribbons – Ribbons add a festive touch to a gift basket. As with the tissue papers, choose ribbons in colors that complement the theme colors of your gift basket or choose them in colors that are reminiscent of the season.
Bows – Bows are like the icing on the cake. They take the basket from pretty looking to STUNNING. Whether you are creating your own bow or you decide to buy a readymade bow, you must make sure the bow is the right size for your basket. Use a large bold bow for a large gift container and a smaller, daintier bow for a smaller gift container.
Gift Tags – Gifts tags are another area to get creative. You can make your own from scratch, buy gift tag kits that you can personalize or buy readymade gift tags. There is no right or wrong. What you choose depends on the time you have on hand and your budget.
If you love the idea of aromatherapy gift baskets but do not have the time to spend on DIY, I’ve put together a few fabulous ideas for aromatherapy spa gift baskets from a wide price range. These are assembled and ready to go. The only thing you need to do is fill in the gift tag.
