When the weather is gorgeous, everybody wants to spend as much time as possible outdoors. Unfortunately, keeping you company are an assortment of bugs and other critters.
While over-the-counter repellent sprays are very effective at keeping bugs at bay, they contain some amount of toxins that are not just bad for your skin but are bad for the environment as well.
This DIY, non-toxic, all-natural insect repellent spray is the perfect alternative. Made from a combination of select essential oils, a carrier oil and witch hazel, this is just what you need to keep bugs away and keep nasty chemicals off your skin and out of the environment.
Here’s how to make your own, non-toxic insect repellent spray.
Ingredients for Non-Toxic Insect Repellent Spray
- 20 drops Citronella Essential Oil
- 10 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 10 drops Catnip Essential Oil
- 5 drops Thyme Essential Oil
- 5 drops Neem oil
- 3 ounces Witch hazel
Mix all the ingredients together well.
Pour into a spray bottle for personal use.
I pour some of the content into a small spray bottle that I carry along with me everywhere I go.
The remaining is stored in a larger, dark-colored bottle. I use this to top up my smaller spray bottle when the level looks low.
This DIY all-natural, non-toxic insect repellent spray has refreshing minty and lemon aromas and can be used indoors as well as outdoors.
Variations
You can use lemon and lavender essential oils instead of eucalyptus and catnip. This will give this DIY Insect Repellent Spray an even stronger and fresher citrus scent.
