Extracted from the petals of the lavender plant by using steam distillation, this is one of the most popular essential oils of all time.
Lavender is one of the best essential oils for rosacea because of its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. When applied to the skin, it soothes and calms down the inflammation caused by the symptoms.
Lavender essential oil also has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that make it very useful for other types of skin ailments as well.

Rosewood oil is known for maintaining the elasticity of the skin. When mixed with other essential oils that are used to treat rosacea, it boosts their effectiveness.
The oil works to help the skin stay smooth and supple.
Note About Moisturizing & Using Essential Oils For Rosacea
Before you start using essential oils for rosacea, it’s important to know a few things.
When you use essential oils on your skin, you must always blend a few drops with a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil. This is because the pure essential oil could be too potent and cause irritation on your skin.
Always make sure that you do a small test area on your skin to make sure that you aren’t allergic to the oils. This could end up exacerbating the existing rosacea symptoms.
Jojoba is one of the best carrier oils for the skin. Extracted from jojoba seeds, this oil bears a similarity to the oil that is naturally produced by your skin.
It is mild and very unlikely to cause any sort of irritation to the skin. All of this makes it particularly useful as a carrier oil when using essential oils for rosacea.
It is also great for keeping the skin properly moisturized by preventing the moisture from evaporating easily. Staying moisturized is important at all times but more so when you have rosacea.
Staying moisturized keeps your blood vessels elastic and healthier. If they dry out they won’t flex as they should and leave you vulnerable to blood vessel bursts. This can cause a lot of scarring under the skin and make the skin grow thicker.
Few Other Precautions To Keep In Mind
Avoid skin-drying products – You have to be incredibly selective about what skin care products you use on your face. Avoid products that contain alcohol, menthol, propylene glycol, camphor and fragrances. These ingredients dry the skin resulting in it becoming even more vulnerable to inflammation.
Use products with fewer ingredients – Many people have allergic reactions to chemicals that are used in several skin care products. Using skin care products with fewer ingredients minimizes the risk of irritation and allergic reactions. Besides, natural products such as essential oils are known to work more effectively to retain moisture in your skin while still letting the skin breathe.
Watch what you eat – Of all of the unpleasant aspects of rosacea, watching what you eat could possibly be immensely traumatizing on its own. Some foods can cause rosacea symptoms to become more severe. Initially, they manifest as simple flare ups, but over time these foods can cause permanent damage. Watch your reactions whenever you eat these foods. If you experience a flare-up of your symptoms immediately after eating any of these, you know you have to remove it from your diet.
- Soy sauce
- Yeast extract
- Sour cream
- All cheese except cottage cheese
Avoid alcohol – Alcohol can cause rosacea to progress more quickly because it aggravates the already strained blood vessels and cause them to become heavily inflamed. As the tissue expands repeatedly, it causes permanent damage to the affected skin. Drinks that are particularly reactive include red wine, vodka, bourbon, and beer.
Keep physical exertion to a minimum – When you do strenuous work the body heats up. This is great for expelling toxins from the body but overheating is bad if you have rosacea. Higher body temperatures cause the rosacea to progress into a higher level of severity. This is because the blood that forced into your capillaries may begin to cause some of them to burst, intensifying the appearance of symptoms.
Rosacea can deal a severe blow to your self-confidence, more so when the symptoms flare up. Knowing what to do and what to avoid is the first step towards controlling the painful symptoms. Just as important, is knowing how to use the right essential oils to treat rosacea.
